Benefits of bright light for health

Why is bright light good for health?

Bright light is one of the most powerful signals your body uses to regulate sleep, mood and alertness. Regular bright light exposure, especially first thing in the morning, helps to align your body's internal clock ('circadian rhythm'), to regulate sleep-wake patterns.

Most indoor lighting is too dim to provide these signals. That’s why access to daylight, or daylight-level light, plays such an important role in how we feel and function.

How can bright light help Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)?

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is commonly associated with reduced daylight exposure during darker months. Research has consistently shown that bright light exposure at approximately 10,000 lux, improves mood and energy in people affected by SAD.

Sunday Light delivers this brightness naturally throughout indoor spaces, making it easy to get the light exposure you need as part of your everyday routine.

How is Sunday Light different to a smaller SAD lamp?

Most SAD lamps deliver high light intensity only at very close range, which typically requires sitting inches from a small device for a fixed period each day. This can make regular use feel like a separate task.

Sunday Light takes a different approach. It delivers daylight-level brightness across an entire room, allowing physiologically meaningful light to be experienced naturally as part of everyday life - while you work, eat, or move through a space. There’s no need to sit still or face a lamp.

In short, SAD lamps focus light on a person. Sunday Light builds daylight into the indoor environment.

How can bright light help my sleep?

Bright light helps regulate your body’s internal clock, known as the circadian rhythm. Exposure to sufficiently bright light during the day, especially in the morning, signals to your body that it’s daytime, which helps reinforce natural sleep timing at night.

Most indoor lighting is not bright enough to provide this strong signal. When daytime light exposure is too low or poorly timed, sleep can become lighter, later, or less consistent. Regular exposure to bright, daytime-appropriate light supports stronger day-night contrast, helping many people fall asleep more easily and wake feeling more rested.

Using the Sunday Light

Why is Sunday Light different to a normal ceiling light?

Most ceiling lights are designed for visual comfort and decoration, not biological impact. They produce relatively low light levels and rely on air cooling, which limits how bright they can be used continuously.

Sunday is engineered from the ground up to deliver daylight-level brightness across an entire space. At these levels, brightness alone isn’t enough - the light must also be comfortable and usable over prolonged periods. Sunday solves these challenges through a combination of high-fidelity LEDs, atmospheric light dispersion, and a sealed water-cooling system.

By doing this, Sunday Light creates an environment which supports your mood, productivity and sleep as part of your everyday routine.

Where should I put my Sunday Light in my home?

Sunday Light is designed to be installed where you naturally spend time during the day, particularly mornings.

Common placements include above dining tables, kitchen islands, desks, or shared living spaces - areas where you sit, work, or gather regularly.

Because Sunday delivers daylight-level light across an entire space, it doesn’t need to be positioned directly above you or used in a dedicated room. The goal is to let bright light become part of your normal daily environment.

For specific placement guidance tailored to your space, contact us at enquiries@sundaylight.cc.

What is the ideal room size for Sunday Light?

Sunday Light works effectively in both small and large spaces. The key thing to consider is where you naturally spend time during the day, particularly in the mornings, so that you can get the most benefit from the light throughout the day.

For specific placement guidance tailored to your space, contact us at enquiries@sundaylight.cc.

Is there a minimum recommended ceiling height for the Sunday Light?

The typical minimum recommended ceiling height is 240 cm (94 inches). If you have a lower ceiling, please contact us in advance at enquiries@sundaylight.cc to discuss your space and we can advise on suitability.

Can you change the colour temperature of the Sunday Light?

Yes. Sunday Light features adjustable colour temperature, ranging from warm evening light (2650K) to cooler daytime light (6000K).

This allows the light to feel appropriate at different times of day - brighter and cooler when you want energy and focus in the morning, and warmer and softer as the day winds down. Colour temperature and brightness can be adjusted manually or scheduled to change automatically throughout the day.

How loud is the Sunday Light?

Sunday light is effectively inaudible in typical rooms. Maximum output is 25 dB(A) at 1 meter (significantly quieter than a typical refrigerator).

How much does it cost to run the Sunday Light?

At full brightness, Sunday Light uses approximately 400W, which equals roughly £0.09 per hour based on typical UK electricity rates. Running costs will vary based on your local electricity prices and usage patterns.

Can the Sunday Light be scheduled to turn on at certain times?

Yes. Sunday Light can be scheduled to turn on and off automatically at specific times, brightness levels, and colour temperatures using supported smart home systems.

This allows light to follow the natural rhythm of the day - bright and energising when you need it, softer and warmer as the day winds down - without manual adjustment.
